LA City Council and Mayor Garcetti: We Oppose CVE

by Kathleen Hernandez

If you haven’t already done so, please sign and send out this petition: https://act.mpowerchange.org/sign/no-cve-in-la-sign/  to your networks, to urge the City Council and Mayor Eric Garcetti to reject CVE funds.  “CVE” stands for Countering Violent Extremism, but is designed to stigmatize Muslims. There will also be a organizational sign on letter available for circulation shortly. Please keep a lookout for this and begin to talk to your orgs about signing on.

The petition states:

The Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) initiative unfairly singles out Muslim communities for surveillance and criminalization. LA’s CVE programs have been developed and launched in an opaque process without broad community consultation. The Trump administration has made it clear that they plan to use the program to target Muslims.

I urge you to reject CVE funding from Trump’s Department of Homeland Security.
