A DRAFT CALL TO ACTION: FAMILIES BELONG TOGETHER

by Andy Griggs

On June 30 there were protests nationwide—we have to keep up the pressure.

THE ACTION:

A vigil with signs along Vin Scully Boulevard from Sunset to Stadium Way

The Date and Time: Saturday, July 14, 2:30 – 4:30 pm (Game begins at 4:15 pm)

To protest Trump Administration immigration policies: “Zero-Tolerance,” family separation, Muslim travel ban, TPS and DACA termination; demand path to citizenship, close down ICE, LA as a sanctuary city, etc

Why here and now?

Great opportunity to reach an entire cross section of Angelenos!

July 14 is Game Two of the Freeway series between Dodgers and Angels – an ideal time to bring this issue to fans of both of LA’s baseball teams.

Both teams and the country see the sport of baseball as a national past time – and seeing a game is part of many family traditions!

July 14 is Bastille Day in France – celebrating the storming of the notorious Paris Prison and the freeing of its prisoners. We should demand the closure of private and government detention centers – free the children and families!

There will also be thousands here for the Lotus Festival! Another interesting concept would be to start at the festival, and as a flash mob action, walk/march/roll to the vigil site!

Some potential slogans, (besides the many that are out there):

Trump’s American Past Time: Separating Children From Their Families

FOUL BALL:  TRUMP JAILING INNOCENT CHILDREN And FAMILIES

HOME RUN:  REUNITING FAMILIES

If people aren’t SAFE at HOME they shouldn’t be SHUTOUT.  Let’s give them some RELIEF!
