I am writing in the hopes that it may influence some people at the recent No Kings and other protests I have attended. I think it is very important to demonstrate opposition to what our government is doing. As a disabled veteran, I am very concerned especially about the wars the US is waging or financing, and about the militarism at our so-called Department of War.

But I think that too many people are using coarse and abusive language and profanities on their placards and banners. I think that turns off or turns away many older people like myself who could otherwise be attracted to participate. So it may help someone vent, but it is self-defeating if we really want to unite enough people to put a stop to what we are protesting.

Thanks for letting me share these thoughts with your other readers. I am 90 years old, and it’s hard for me to get around.
