We mourn the passing and celebrate the life of our brother in struggle, Dedon Kamathi, an advocate of liberation for African people and all oppressed people. Dedon passed away on August 25. Dedon had suffered one or more strokes recently and was recovering with his family in San Diego when he died. We send deeply felt condolences to all his comrades and family and to those who knew and worked with him.
Dedon was the long-time host of KPFK’s “Freedom Now,” a former member of the boards of KPFK and Pacifica and a founder of the Crack the CIA! Coalition. He had a history in the Black Panther Party for Self Defense and in the All-Afrikan Peoples’ Revolutionary Party. He surfed with the Black Surfers Collective and was past president of the Black Surfers Association. Dedon was an opponent of capitalism, imperialism, Zionism, militarism, and so-called humanitarian US invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and elsewhere. He will be missed.
