Cuban Journalist in U.S. for Premiere of Groundbreaking New Film

Join award-winning Afro-Cuban journalist and filmmaker, Liz Oliva Fernandez, for a screening and Q & A of two new Belly of the Best documentaries, Cuba in the Crosswinds, that expose what’s driving Cuba policy under Biden.

Filmed this year in New Jersey and Washington D.C., Uphill on the Hill & Hardliner on the Hudson expose the economic and political interests driving U.S. policy toward Cuba under the Biden administration, which has mainly kept intact Trump’s “maximum pressure” sanctions on Cuba, fueling an unprecedented wave of migration from the island

The documentary features exclusive interviews with Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), former Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, and former Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ), in addition to other elected officials, diplomats, policy experts and Cuban-American business leaders

The documentary’s presenter, is a Cuban journalist, feminist and anti-racist activist who received the prestigious Gracie Award in 2021 also a co-winner of a One World Media Award, besting BBC and Al Jazeera, as well as a Telly Award for her groundbreaking work presenting, reporting and producing The War on Cuba documentary series

The LA screening of Cuba in the Crosswinds will provide an opportunity for audiences to learn more about the forces shaping the United States’ ongoing economic war against Cuba

LA area speaking engagements include: 5 local campuses and high schools, union meetings and a city-wide meeting.
