Vote “NO!” on Pacifica’s Anti-Democratic Bylaws Revision

Vote "NO!" on Pacifica's Anti-Democratic Bylaws Revision by Grassroots Community Radio Coalition www.gcrc-socal.org A court in Berkeley has ordered the Pacifica Foundation to conduct a vote on a total Bylaws revision, masquerading as an amendment, and because of financial and other issues, Pacifica is unable to contest the order, brought by the same hijackers who recently took WBAI in NY off the air, replacing local programmers with piped in content from KPFK and KPFA, and seriously damaging the NY station and its fundraising until the national Board [...]

Democracy at Pacifica in Peril

Bylaws Amendment Would Eliminate Local Station Boards, Ease Sale of Pacifica Assets, Disenfranchise Voters by Grassroots Community Radio Coalition, www.gcrc-socal.org Under a court order issued in Berkeley after a stealth lawsuit brought by several members of the Pacifica National Board minority and supporters, the Pacifica Foundation is being required to hold a vote, outside normal Bylaws procedures, on a complete revision of the Bylaws which would eliminate elected Local Station Boards entirely, double the monetary requirement to become a member, and increase the number of hours as [...]

KPFK Turns 60, But Would Lew Hill Recognize His Listener-Sponsored Public Radio Station?

KPFK Turns 60, But Would Lew Hill Recognize His Listener-Sponsored Public Radio Station? by Michael Zeno This morning on the nationally syndicated Stephanie Miller Show, a recent addition which now airs five days a week on my local Pacifica station KPFK 90.7FM in Los Angeles, in between her wall-to-wall anti-Trump coverage and vitriol, she reported on a story about a man whose penis was ossifying into a "bone-er"(as she put it). The short segment was replete with a cacauphony of crude humor, sound effects, gasps and guffaws [...]

Serious Concerns Raised About Belated, Truncated KPFK Local Station Board Election Process Editor’s Note: Protests are mounting locally and nationally, due to the lack of consideration given to the listeners of the five Pacifica radio stations, KPFK, KPFA, KPFT, WPFW and WBAI, in order to be able to participate in the elections in less than two weeks! The Oct. 1 deadline to become a member, and Oct. 24 to become a candidate, was announced on the radio and website on Mon Sep. 24. KPFK 90.7 FM will [...]

KPFK Continues to Lose Millions

KPFK Continues to Lose Millions by Rob Macon, KPFK Local Station Board member KPFK is not reaching enough listeners to barely pay its payroll and other basic expenses. That is why, in case you were wondering, almost any given month you will hear a fund drive rather than regular programs. With 112,000 watts, the largest signal west of the Mississippi, and the ability to reach listeners from Santa Barbara all the way to San Diego, not only in Los Angeles, KPFK has such low ratings that it [...]
