Health Corner: Make Easy Kimchi At Home

How To Make Easy Kimchi at Home by Emily Han https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-easy-kimchi-at-home-189390 The first few times I tried kimchi it was not, I must admit, my favorite food. Then I met my Korean-American partner, Gregory, moved in with his mom — a superb cook — and within a few months I was wholly converted. These days my mouth waters at the slightest whiff of pungent, fermented cabbage and I’ll eat it with everything from fried rice to dumplings, summer rolls, or, ahem, straight out of the jar. I [...]

Letter to the Editor

Letter to the Editor from Ray Jones Still alive and well??? ...  “Trump still does not comprehend the seriousness or the urgency of the health and economic crises facing working families,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Saturday evening in a joint statement. “We’re disappointed that instead of putting in the work to solve Americans’ problems, the President instead recently chose to stay on his luxury golf course to announce unworkable, weak and narrow policy announcements to slash the unemployment benefits that [...]

Vote for Peace in 2020

U.S. Peace Council: "Vote for Candidates who Commit to Opposing Endless War, Runaway Military Spending, and Racial Oppression" Year after year, Congress lavishes a treasure on the Military Industrial Complex. Practically every member of Congress votes to increase this huge giveaway to war and militarism, expecting a portion of it will return to his/her state or Congressional District, thus further militarizing our economies. Earlier this month, all but 43 House Democrats joined the Republicans to pass the $740 billion defense budget in defiance of the will of [...]

Transforming Resistance into Revolution

Transforming a culture of solidarity, resistance and liberation into a thoroughgoing social, political and economic revolution Reflection by Michael Novick (posted at https://antiracist.org/we-must-go-all-the-way-this-time/) There is no question that a profound and long-overdue collective self-examination and cultural revolution is now going on in the United States, not uniformly or universally, but significantly and with far-reaching impact. The Sierra Club has disowned John Muir for his deeply  racist views about Black people and others. Planned Parenthood has done the same with Margaret Sanger for her eugenicist racism that motivated [...]

Chernobyl USA: Why the US Failed Miserably in Fighting COVID-19

Why the U.S. Failed Miserably, And Why China Won the Fight Against COVID-19 by Lee Siu Hin In January 2020, several cases of viral pneumonia of unknown origin were detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan. No one knew exactly what the virus was, hence the vague identifier of “coronavirus” so popularly known today. Thousands of miles away in the U.S., when the virus was believed not to have reached its soil yet, right-wing U.S. elites, media, and politicians began using cruel words and ridicule against [...]

Mumia Abu-Jamal: Children of the Corn

CHILDREN OF THE CORN {col.writ.7/13/20} © 2020 by Mumia Abu-Jamal   When we think of politicians, we too often see them as great, even mighty figures, seemingly larger than life. That’s because of how the media projects them - and far too often, protects them. But in times like these, times of plague, crises, massive failures of institutions, and yes, of death, we begin to see them differently. For some, the spell is broken. We see them as they are, flawed beings, driven by ambition and hunger [...]

MSW Students Concerns Regarding Youth's Mental Health During Covid-19 The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting multiple areas of youths’ lives including social, mental health, and emotional well-being.  Many youths across our nation received little to no information about the COVID-19 virus prior to the stay at home orders being put into place.  Additionally, youths did not receive prior notice about possible changes to their daily routines and intended school disruptions.  New challenges arose when school and home life were forced to coexist in the same place. Socialization is [...]
